  1. Hi Sharon,

I'm very delighted that you chose our country, Canada, as one that you would like to learn about! Cool!

We do have some beautiful buildings in our different towns and cities but we also, like your country, have a lot of wild spaces. Most people in Canada live close to the southern border of our country, the border with the United States. Our far north is very wild and open and people would find it hard to live there because of the cold temperatures and the shortness of the spring, summer and fall seasons. It's difficult to grow food in a place where winter lasts for 8 months of the year.

But the north is very very beautiful and so my husband, Ron, has taken a number of canoe trips through the Territories, to see the land and the animals that live there such as caribou, bears and wolves. Would you be interested in seeing such a wild place?

When I visited New Zealand last year I was very happy to walk through the beautiful forests around Auckland and to tramp along the beaches that are often surrounded by stunningly lovely cliffs and rocky shorelines. You live in a very special country.

I hope you have lots of chances to get out to some beaches and park areas during your summer holidays!!

    Great blogging!

  3. Kia ora Sharon!

I'm Mark, one of the teachers working on the Summer Learning Journey with Rachel and Dan. I hope you're enjoying the programme!

You know what? I love taking pictures of buildings too, I also love drawing them, whether they are old or new. Do you like drawing too?

I once knew a girl who liked taking pictures of all the interesting buildings too, then she got tired of taking pictures, but she still loved buildings! So she learned how to design them for big companies, and now she is an architect!

Architects design all the interesting buildings you see (and some not-so-interesting ones) and they get paid really well. I think if you wanted and you studied really, really hard in all your subjects, and practiced hard, you could become an architect yourself!

At least, that is the feeling I got when I read your post. I get the feeling like you love interesting buildings, so I think you might like this idea of mine. What do you think?

Copy and paste this link into your internet to see what architects can achieve. I bet you've never seen anything like it. People just like you helped make these.

    Keep up the great work!
